A teenage hiker will tomorrow set off on an epic adventure, hiking the length of America's West Coast from Mexico to Canada - a journey that will take him four months.
When Kyran Young, from Stroud, Gloucestershire, read about the world's last 880 remaining mountain gorillas he felt compelled to take action.
The nineteen-year-old from Stroud, who spent the first years of his life living in Harare, Zimbabwe, was appalled by what he saw.
...'I have always cared about animals, but then I saw this article about gorillas being killed for bush meat, their feet and hands sold on the black market, I knew I had to do something about it.'
Shortly after this, Young happened to meet famous gorilla conservationist, Ian Redmond OBE, in his hometown. The pair got talking and it was just the catalyst the young adventurer needed.
'He gave me a lot of advice and mentoring. Meeting such a great man in one of the smallest towns in the country felt like just the push I needed.'
Young hopes his 2,663 mile hike will raise £10,000 for the American charity, The Gorilla Organization, which works to save the world's last remaining gorillas in the wild from extinction.
