A week after the murder of photojournalist Ruben Espinoza, Mexico City Mayor Miguel Mancera says that a new law will protect journalists.

Nevertheless, Dari Rodriguez of the ‘Article 19’ Human Rights Organization says that the spate of laws purportedly passed to protect journalists in Mexico are political statements and not a clear message that protection will be guaranteed.

Of the 88 murders of journalists in the country since 2000, 97% went unpunished.
