Exhibitions in Mexico City Commemorate Diego Rivera's 130th Anniversary

On the 130th anniversary of the birth of Mexican muralist Diego Rivera (1886-1957) the House-Studio Museum named after him and Frida Kahlo remember the artist with two magnificent exhibitions.

The events, one of which highlights his role as a collector of Pre-Hispanic art, will be open to the public until November 6th and they are also part of the commemorative activities for the Museum's 30th Anniversary.

Luis Rius is the curator of the exhibitions entitled "Diego Rivera and Kurt Stavenhagen, Pre-hispanic art collectors" and "Diego Rivera."

The first one consists of 168 pieces, out of which 68 are primitive Pre-hispanic figures, 34 come from Rivera's collection which has more than 59,000 pieces and 34 from Stavenhagen's collection, which contains over 3,000.

The second exhibition is composed of 44 pieces, including photographs, oil paintings, drawings, books, facsimile documents and caricatures, said a statement from the Ministry of Culture.
