Drone footage captured the ruins of a 16th century Dominican church, normally covered by water but revealed due to severe drought in the Benito Juarez Dam in Jalapa del Marquez, Oaxaca (Ruptly TV)

A drought has revealed a 400-year-old Dominican church that has remained intact despite spending decades underwater in a reservoir in Oaxaca, Mexico.

The church, which was submerged in the 1960s when the nearby Benito Juarez Dam was built, partially reappears every year.

However, a severe drought in Mexico has caused the water level to drop so much the temple is now almost completely visible.

Drone footage has shown that despite remaining underwater for so long much of the stone structure beneath the surface is still completely intact.

The church was built in the late 1500s by monks and nuns as they arrived in Mexico to spread Christianity.
