Refugee shelters in Mexico face increasing pressure (CGTN)

The episcopal conferences of Mexico and the United States are strengthening bilateral cooperation in support of migrants facing the policies by Donald Trump, it was reported this week.

Alfonso Miranda, secretary general of the Mexican Episcopal Conference (CEM), met with Jose Gomez, vice president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and Archbishop of Los Angeles, in that city.

Both agreed to 'strengthen and expand the existing ties and project joint work on issues such as migration, aid to the poor, religious freedom and communication.'

'The Feeling and Walking of the Episcopal Conferences of Mexico and the United States are tightening on the common goal of encouraging broad efforts to create an extensive network dedicated to the defense and social services in favor of the migrant families,' according to a statement released here by CEM.

Trump's administration 'takes measures that infringe the dignity of the migrant brothers, after increasing the pain, fear and anguish over the possible physical separation of the families, the loss of jobs, with the consequent elimination of its source of income.'

Miranda also mentions that persecutions, discriminations and expressions of racism have increased with the current U.S. administration.
