The Mexican peso hit its highest point since last August on Wednesday, as the dollar came under pressure on the back of weak economic data.
The peso hit MXN17.9393 on the day, the first time a dollar was worth less than 18 pesos since August 18, according to Bloomberg data.
The peso had traded as weak as MXN22.0385 in early January, with investors fretting that the Trump administration would take a tough stance on the country. But focus has shifted away from that specter as the administration has become engulfed in scandals while Mexico’s economy performs better than many expected.
