Life in the Slums of Tijuana (VICE)

Late last week, 350 homeless people were removed from the downtown Tijuana areas where they were living, and it appears all have returned, although perhaps not the same ones.

According to the official information, the homeless were moved to the Sports Unit in colonia Santa Fe, where they were given toiletries, haircuts, dental exams, food and clean clothes and blankets.

The were then taken to a magistrate, given a medical evaluation, and based upon the situation of each, they were channeled to the General Hospital, the Psychiatric Institute, several homeless shelters and 39 rehabilitation centers. It was an effort coordinated by the municipal family services department and the Office of Migrant Affairs. Foreigners living on the streets in Tijuana were deported.
