Task Force Meets to Grow Hispanic Travel Market Travel Blackboard

Hoping to draw on the “under tapped” U.S. Hispanic travel market, the recently developed NTA-ASTA Hispanic Business Development Task Force met for the first time in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico this week.

Convened in conjunction with Tianguis Turistico Mexico, the joint task force will look to tap into the fast growing Hispanic travel sector, which in the next three years is estimated to reach US$1.3 trillion in purchasing power.

“Because tourism creates jobs and the Hispanic market represents 16 percent of the U.S. population, there is an unprecedented opportunity for growth,” task force chair, and NTA and ASTA member, Olga Ramudo remarked.

“NTA and ASTA are creating a home for travel professionals specializing in Hispanic travel with a ‘Mi casa es su casa’ approach.”

Mexico Tourism Board Miami director and board member Jose Barquin said it had been an honor to host the inaugural meeting of the task force, which would almost certainly “create new opportunities to bring more visitors to Mexico”.
Led by Express Travel chief executive Ms Ramundo, the task force comprises a diverse range of travel professionals including Mr Barquin, ASTA president Nina Meyer, MarkeTravel International’s Maria Gross, Angel Alvarez of Rail Europe, Gloria Stock Mickelson of Travel Leaders Franchise Group and Jorge Sanchez of Mena Tours and Travel, among others.
