Seventh Annual Marlin & Tuna Sportfishing Tournament at Paradise Village Marina Team Angels - Banderas Bay Sportfishing Club

The Banderas Bay Sportfishing Club of Nuevo Vallarta has announced the Seventh Annual Marlin & Tuna Tournament of 2013 to take place at the Paradise Village Marina on August 8 through August 10.

This year, the Sportfishing Club has defined five different categories: the two that give this competition its name and that offer the most important prizes (tuna and marlin), and additionally mahi mahi, sailfish and the special billfish catch and release category.

Competitors can register in teams of up to four members per boat. Only non-electronic rods and reels will be allowed with 130-pound test lines and simple bait. The team enrollment fee is 14,000 pesos.

In the billfish catch & release category, each participating team will have to take a video of each one of their catches, including a timestamp. The winning team will be the one that catches the largest number of fish. In the other categories, the winner will be defined by the weight of the catch.

On Thursday, August 8, from 5:00 until 10:00 pm, there will be a Welcome Cocktail Registration and Enrollment at the Paradise Village Yacht Club, between the shopping mall and the hotel, in front of the pyramid.

The first day of fishing will begin on Friday, August 9, at 5:00 am with the opening ceremony, flag protocol and departures. The fish reception at the Paradise Village Marina pier will be from 1:00 until 6:00 pm.

Boats can depart beginning at 12:01 the morning of Saturday, August 10, returning between 1:00 and 6:00 pm for the fish reception, followed by the Awards Ceremony at 6:30 pm in the amphitheater at the Paradise Village Marina.

Alberto Sanchez Cardinas, President of the Bahia de Banderas Sportfishing Club, says "We're waiting for you with the best catches of the entire Mexican Pacific; remember, we have the best record of marlin since our 1st tournament with a catch of 710.54 lbs (322.300 kg) and in our second tournament, we had a 702 lb (318.400 kg) marlin that we hope you can beat during this competition."

Tournament Prizes:

Marlin
• 1st Place - 150,000 pesos cash, a certificate for each team member and a gold plaque for the boat
• 2nd Place - Three nights accommodations at the Buena Vista Hotel Los Cabos including all meals, and a day of fishing on a 29 ft. boat for four anglers. (Airfare not included)
• 3rd Place - Gold Medal

Tuna
• 1st Place - 100,000 pesos cash, a certificate for each team member and a gold plaque for the boat
• 2nd Place - Three nights accommodations at the Hard Rock Hotel in Nuevo Vallarta for 4 people.
• 3rd Place - Gold Medal

Sailfish
• 1st Place - 80,000 pesos cash, a certificate for each team member and a gold plaque for the boat
• 2nd Place - Three nights accommodations at the Playa Los Arcos Hotel in Old Town Vallarta for 4 people.
• 3rd Place - Black Bart Lures

Mahi Mahi
• 1st Place - 60,000 pesos cash, a certificate for each team member and a gold plaque for the boat
• 2nd Place - Eight hour sportfishing charter on fully-equipped 28 ft super panga with two motors.
• 3rd Place - Black Bart Lures

Catch & Release Billfish
• 1st Place - Numbered & certified sailfish bronze sculpture by Gustavo Lopez Ochoa, a certificate for each team member and a plaque for the boat

There will also be pools for the Marlin prize of $1,000 US, the tuna prize of $500 US and sailfish and mahi mahi prizes of $200 US.
