Upcoming Events: Kitty Gringo Bingo

By popular demand, there will be another BINGO evening at Alcatraces Restaurant on Thursday, September 26th at 5:00 p.m. We’ll be playing GRINGO BINGO instead of Mexican Loteria but you still shout “MEOW” when you win! Alcatraces is located just across from the COSTCO parking lot, only one block off Francisco Villa. We filled the room in August so don’t be late!

PuRR is very excited to announce the upcoming season of BINGO will begin on Wednesday, November 6th and continue every other week through March. Our new venue is Margarita Grill, located on the corner of Basilio Badillo & Pino Suarez in Old Town. This al fresco restaurant serves some of the best Mexican fare in town, there’s on street parking and an underground parking garage is only one block away! Bingo cards will go on sale at 4:30 and games will begin promptly at 5:00. We’ve have lined up some great half-time entertainment again this year, so put the date on your PuRR calendar and get ready to have some fun and win great prizes while supporting the kitties! Meow!

PuRR would also like to take this opportunity to thank Sean & Tammy for being such wonderful hosts last season at Nacho Daddys. They will be moving to their new location on Basilio Badillo very soon and all their fans can’t wait to check out the new digs!

Important Adoption Announcement!

After much negotiation, our volunteers have received the A-OKAY to hold weekly Adoptions at the WalMart Shopping Center in Nuevo Vallarta!! We will test this venue over the next weeks and see if it proves to be as good a spot as we think. PuRR will have adoptable kittens there every THURSDAY from noon to 2:00 p.m. starting September 12th. AS of this writing, I am not sure exactly where in the center the booth will be located….should be easy to spot. You can also pick up your PuRR Project 2014 Calendar there for only a $200 peso donation. So come by and adopt your kitty or just come by and say hello!

September: Virtual Adoption Month

Meet Guerrero, our newest candidate for Virtual Adoption! “Guerrero” means “warrior” in Spanish, but our big boy is a lover, not a fighter. Rescued by Alexia of Colorizimo Salon from a resort in Conchas Chinas about 3 years ago, he was passed over for adoption and eventually released into the yard at the ranch. For only $120 a year (or $10 a month) you can go online at //www.purrproject.com/virtual-adoption/ and choose Guerrero or another special kitty to sponsor. IDEA! Give a Virtual Kitty as a birthday gift to that cat-loving friend who already has everything else!!

September is our “official” V.A. month but any month is a good time to decide to sponsor one of our adult cats who will most likely never find a Forever Home. Once we accept a kitten or cat that is either not a good candidate for adoption or perhaps just gets passed over, we are dedicated to allowing that feline to live out their life in the PuRR gardens. The V.A. Program helps raise the pesos to feed and care for these animals as long as they live. And Muchas Gracias to both Jill Brady & Brooke Loudermilk who virtually adopted Dolly as soon as they read about her in our August newsletter!

Good Meows: Reid’s Journey

Reid, Morgan & Penelope Garcia were 2-week old rescues last April, obviously named by a fan of Criminal Minds!! Taken from their mother too young, they had a rough start. Eventually Morgan & Pen were adopted and we thought Reid had found his Forever Home last week at the Plaza Marina booth, until….we found out that Lucero Narvaez and her nephew Sunny live in Queretaro, a town about 130 miles from Mexico City. Worse, they would be traveling home by bus and animals go under the bus with luggage, simply NOT an option for little Reid!!

The phrase “it takes a village” was never truer than in Reid’s case. PuRR volunteer Livia spun into action, Facebooking and texting to find someone traveling to Mexico City who’d be willing to take Reid that far. Her friend Pico Azpiri responded, a carrier was loaned, a volunteer picked him up at the shelter and met Pico at the PV airport, another nephew of Lucero’s met him in Mexico city and drove him to his new home in Queretero where he was joyfully received – at last – by Sunny!! Just goes to show, when someone wants to give one of our babies a Forever Home, we’ll stop at nothing to make it happen!

Adoption Update: Clancy O'Connor

Maria O’Connor reports that Clancy has made himself right at home! Adopted in May, Clancy joined her large brood and quickly found a special place in her heart (and on her bed!). You can see one of her other “special needs” adoptees, Mister Jack Sparrow, featured as Mr. July in the new PuRR Project 2014 Calendar. They’ll be on sale when we return to the Paradise Center Saturday Market on October 26th, or contact Bama at info@purrproject.com to order or reserve your calendar!

Tvc Networks’ Project Adopta

PuRR was among the local animal groups invited to take part in this event sponsored & televised by the TVC Networks at the Stadium on Sept. 7th. Despite the rain interruption, TVC reports that 20 animals were adopted and PEACE spayed or neutered 92 dogs & cats! Unfortunately, PuRR had no adoptions but we did get to showcase our 2014 Calendar and our new Logo T-shirts & caps….and make lots of friends!

It is a cruel reality that the animal population is out of control and abandonment of pets by the public is a growing problem. We salute TVC Networks’ support to bring this problem and solutions to the local public through Project Adopta. They plan to continue showcasing local adoption events and working on public awareness of the value of all animals’ lives.
