The Municipal Coordination of Civil Protection and Fire is ready to launch its Summer Courses 2014 'My First Steps in Prevention,' with the participation of 200 children and young people aged 8 to 16 years of age.

Activities will take place from July 21 until August 8 from 8:00 am until 2:00 pm with the aim of strengthening the culture in Civil Protection and reach different Vallarta homes through the participation of minors.

"We are handling issues of fire prevention, first aid, covering topics such as CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation), family plan of civil protection, all with fun activities according to their ages that allow them to use the knowledge imparted to them," stated Sergio Ramírez López, head of Civil Protection and Fire in Puerto Vallarta.

He explained that the youths will be subdivided into four groups according to their age: the first of which is A or orange group, consisting of children 8 and 9 years; B or green team, consisting of 10 and 11 years; the C or red group of 12 to 13 years; and the D or blue team of 14 to 16 years.

Ramírez López said that given the favorable response that they have received, there is the possibility of expanding the number of spaces available, "but it is a situation we are discussing with the goal being more quality than quantity, we can make activities that can be used by children and these activities can adequately provide for a level of achievement and also enough information to be useful."

The Bomberos de Puerto Vallarta (Fire Department) is located at Ave de las Americas #565 in the Lazaro Cardenas Colony. Telephones are (322) 223-9476, 223-9478 and 224-7701. Email is proteccioncivil@bomberosvallarta.gob.mx.
