The cities of Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta will be united with a driving time of approximately two and a half hours in the last quarter of 2017, creating a 'short route' between the two cities.

According to the Secretariat of Communications and Transport (SCT) it was unveiled that the Grupo Ideal (Ideal Group) won the construction, operation, exploitation, conservation and maintenance of what will be the third and last stage of the 'short route' which in this case will go Las Varas-Puerto Vallarta, in what will be a highway from the first level that will ensure the safety of thousands of motorists currently circulating on the free road.

This portion of the road project will be approximately 85.8 km with two lanes to provide service to more than 6,300 vehicles per day.

In this way it will expedite transit to reduce travel time from one hour and 50 minutes to just about an hour, which will also reduce operating costs for the motorists.

It will also increase road safety by providing a path of best specifications to cross the Sierra Vallejo and eliminate bottlenecks on the route to avoid passing through the towns of Las Varas, la Peñita de Jaltemba, Rincón de Guayabitos, Lo de Marcos, San Ignacio, San Francisco, Chulavista, Bucerías and Mezcales.

The Varas-Puerto Vallarta is one of the 52 motorways that the present administration plans to deliver before the end of term as a bid to improve the mobility of the country, said the SCT.

After decades of having a project on the radar that ends by connecting the cities of Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta in the State of Jalisco to boost trade and tourism, strategies plan to be finalized in August of 2017 when the 'short route' which has been a dream for years will finally become a reality.

It is a major highway leading from Guadalajara to Puerto Vallarta and other municipalities of Nayarit, among them Jala, Compostela and Bahía de Banderas.

The document published in the portfolio of Highway Projects of the Federal Government estimated the total 'short route' to be 266 kilometers.

With the completion of the 'short route' citizens and tourists will enjoy the convenience of driving between Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta by shortening the driving time from the present around 5 hours to only about 2 hours and 30 minutes.
