The Magic Town of Sayulita in Riviera Nayarit invites you to celebrate the Day of the Dead participating on a weekend full of festivities as part of the 5th Day of the Dead Festival this November 1st and 2nd.

The celebration begins with the 5th Altar Contest to be celebrated on November 1st and 2nd in the style of the Surf Capital of the Riviera Nayarit in honor of the Day of the Dead. Last year about 40 different altars were raised in the villages main square with the participation of all its inhabitants: schools, retirement facilities, businesses, the ejidatarios, the escaramuzas, the surfers, etc.

The altars will be raised on the main square starting on the evening of October 31st in order to be ready at 2:00 pm on November 1st and will continue until the end of the day on November 2nd.

There will be a series of presentations including dancing, theater presentations, street musicians and more. Afterwards there will be a dance for all the participants until midnight.

On November 2nd the Altar de Muertos Contest Awards Ceremony will take place, followed by a mystic walk towards the cemetery beginning at midnight with a mariachi serenade. Upon their return, the banda and other music will start up again for the public to enjoy.

Definitely a fun way to celebrate this fun and unique Mexican Tradition!

This celebration is possible thanks to the organization of the town of Sayulita with the support of the Groups and Events department of the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau as well as the municipal and state authorities.
