Kittens ready for adoption!

Shelter 2016 Recap:

Since last January, the PuRR Shelter took in 128 felines and found Forever Homes for 74.

That’s a lot of adoptions and we are grateful for them but it is still a disappointing number compared to past years.

42 of the adoptions were from the Plaza Marina Friday booth and the rest were from the shelter, FaceBook or through volunteers.

There is a lot of competition from all the rescue groups to find homes for kittens and it gets tougher every year.

Our hope is that the on-going efforts to control unwanted animals through the various FREE spay-neuter clinics will gradually make a difference in our communities in Banderas Bay!

As of today, we have 29 kittens in the Nursery. All our kittens are tested for FIV/Leukemia, dewormed and monitored until they are deemed to be healthy enough to be spayed/neutered and vaccinated and ready to meet the outside world….and hopefully spend the rest of their lives in a loving home.

For more information on adoptions, contact Bama at adopt@purrproject.com

Liam at home in the PuRR Nursery

Featured Feline: Liam

Liam was about 3 months old when he came to the shelter last May. Sisters Lucy & Lola were quickly adopted. Liam gets LOTS of attention at adoption posts but never a home….and now approaching 9 months old, will soon be released into the yard.

He’s gray & white with big green eyes and it’s so unfortunate that no one has chosen him because he has the most out-going personality of any kitty in the PuRR Nursery!

This is definitely not a shy boy and would be great in a home where he is the only cat and can get lots of attention.

Contact Bama at adopt@purrproject.com if YOU would like to meet him!

Dawn, Memito & Bama at the airport

Memito’s Journey:

Dawn & Bill Juola came to Puerto Vallarta in November with the plan to adopt another PuRR kitty. After a visit to the shelter, they chose a little male Tuxedo and named him “Memito”.

They had flown Volaris Airlines out of Tijuana where there is a new land bridge at the airport that you can use to cross right over to the California side and near their home. They made the Pet-in-Cabin reservation and on the appointed day, picked up Memito from a volunteer’s house and headed off to the airport.

Checking in, they were told that cats in cabin had to be in a HARD CARRIER…..not the soft under-seat carrier that all other airlines require!! This rule apparently applies only to cats…..not dogs.

Unable to come up with one at the last minute, Dawn and little Memito missed the flight and had to find a hotel in Vallarta for the night.

The next day a small hard carrier was found, they boarded the flight and made it safely home. Dawn sent us a photo to show where they found space for the carrier and a seat for Dawn right across the aisle. Fortunately, it was a short flight and he was a good little traveler.

Thanks, Dawn!! Next time, we’ll know about this strange rule on Volaris Airlines.

Lots of kitties to feed!

Donations:

You can now support PuRR Project every time you shop on Amazon!!

Just log in at Smile Amazon and they will ask you to pick a charity before you shop.

Enter PURR PROJECT USA, Milton DE, and a percentage of all your purchases will be donated to PuRR.

It’s that simple……and every little bit helps support our shelter kitties!

If you live in the Vallarta area, you can also bring your gently used clothing to the Deja New consignment store at Jacarandas #280 in Old Town and ask that it be credited to the PuRR Project account.

You can also bring them to any Kitty BINGO night and receive a FREE card!

Volunteers Joyce & Greg at DD’s

Volunteers:

We’d like to say a big THANK YOU to some of our latest volunteers: Sharon McDonald for being our star “cat bather” and assisting Dra. Eva on Thursdays at the shelter. Christine Salidivar and Joanna Spear for assisting Livia at the Plaza Marina adoptions on Fridays. Joyce and Greg Nordquist for working the Saturday adoption post. Gloria Tyson for volunteering at Kitty BINGO. Connie Argus & Tom Barnes for calling the numbers at BINGO!! John Roberts for his creative hand-made bracelets and key-chains….available on Saturdays at the Daiquiri Dick’s adoption booth.

We still REALLY need someone with a car to help drive Dra. Eva to the shelter a couple of days a month!
