Jon Murphy, owner of Murphy's Irish Pub, has just let us know that the American Legion Post 14 members and friends are invited to join the Navy League's Eagles and Anchors reception in welcoming the Officers and Chiefs of the USCGC Stratton.
You don't have to be a member of the American Legion or the Navy League to join in the fun reception to welcome the United States Coast Guard Cutter Stratton to Puerto Vallarta.
Just show up for the fun at Murphy's Irish Pub on Wednesday, July 26, between 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm.
Murphy's will be serving a Mex-Irish buffet along with ice cold Corona and Pacifico Beer, sodas and bottles of water.
Entry fee is only 200 pesos per person (50 pesos goes to help pay for the Coasties).
According to Wikipedia: USCGC Stratton (WMSL-752) is the third Legend-class cutter of the United States Coast Guard. It is the first "white hull" cutter named after a woman since the 1980s (USCGC Harriet Lane was launched in 1984). Stratton is named for Coast Guard Captain Dorothy C. Stratton (1899–2006). Stratton served as director of the SPARS, the Coast Guard Women's Reserve during World War II.
Construction began in 2008 by Northrop Grumman's Ship System Ingalls Shipyard in Pascagoula, Mississippi. The keel was laid on July 20, 2009. The cutter's sponsor is Michelle Obama, who is the 1st First Lady to sponsor a Coast Guard cutter.
