Acting Mayor Francisco José Martínez Gil exhorted those who work in Puerto Vallarta's tourism industry to join the actions in the fight for a tourism free of human trafficking and human exploitation in our destination.

Upon welcoming the authorities and tourism service providers to the event in which the actions aimed at promoting this effort were shown, as well as the presentation of the National Code of Conduct of the Mexican sector, the mayor stressed that this effort is crucial to confront a scourge that unfortunately continues to affect communities around the world.

"It is our duty and responsibility to join efforts to eradicate it. The adoption of the National Code of Conduct for the protection of children and adolescents in the travel and tourism sector, is a more than significant step in this battle, this code establishes clear guidelines and concrete actions to prevent and combat child exploitation in all its tourist forms, demonstrate their commitment to the protection of human rights and contribute to creating a safe and ethical environment for all," he noted.

Also in the presence of leaders of the Canaco, COPARMEX and Hotel and Motel Association, Martinez Gil assured that in Puerto Vallarta we are proud to be a tourist destination that values integrity and respect for human rights, however, "we cannot be complacent about this, we must work jointly, collaboratively and constantly to strengthen our policies, practices and programs of prevention and protection."

"Today more than ever all actors involved in the tourism industry must take an active role in the protection of the most vulnerable, reporting any form of exploitation and abuse is fundamental to eradicate this problem, we must foster a culture of reporting where support and protection is provided to those who dare to speak out because that too is a problem."

Finally, the interim municipal president stated that this event represents a step forward in the fight against human trafficking and human exploitation in tourism and thanked all attendees for their commitment to build a future where tourism is synonymous with opportunity and safety for all.

As part of the program, Arturo Dávalos Peña, General Director of Beach Tourism of the Jalisco Ministry of Tourism, presented the National Code of Conduct (CCN) certificate to the Posada Roger Hotel, which is valid for two years, while Jorge Quintero Alvarado, Director of Beach Tourism in Puerto Vallarta, made a detailed presentation of the work that has been carried out since 2022 in this area. Currently there are nine companies that have obtained the CCN and must renew it; another nine establishments have the certificate in force, six more that have already been trained and are about to receive the CCN and five that are about to participate in the training.

Also present were Dr. Thais Loera Ochoa, executive secretary of the State System for the Integral Protection of the Rights of Children and Adolescents (SIPINNA) of the State of Jalisco; Diana Flores Rojas, president of the organization Fin de la Esclavitud, A.C., and José Alberto Mora Trujillo, Regional Special Prosecutor.
