The trend of making trips focused on physical and mental well-being - known as wellness tourism - is gaining momentum throughout the world.
This 2022, the Global Wellness Institute (GWI) announced that worldwide this tourism presents an increase of close to 10% per year. In particular, According to the GWI, Mexico has become the main destination for wellness tourism in Latin America, with a market valued at 10.5 billion dollars.
One of the factors for a destination to become a wellness tourism powerhouse is its biodiversity, as is the case in Jalisco, a state that has a wide range of landscapes, a key ingredient in this type of travel and lifestyle.
In fact, within the framework of the activities of the Tianguis Turístico 2021, which took place in Mérida, Yucatán, six states formed the Centro-Occident Pact for Tourism, which seeks to promote wellness tourism and promote healthy activities for its visitors. The members of this pact are: San Luis Potosí, Guanajuato, Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, Jalisco and Querétaro.
In Jalisco there are wellness experiences that travelers cannot miss as they will make them feel healthy and in harmony, an objective that people are seeking as a result of the pandemic, after having lived through moments of uncertainty and social isolation. Due to the above, now tourists are looking for:
Health. Emotional balance. Physical well-being. Responsible consumption with the environment, as it is the closest contact with nature where they can carry out activities that involve meditation, skin care and healthy eating.
To further understand the concept of wellness, the official website Universia.net points out that the father of the Wellness Movement was the statesman Halbert L. Dunn, who in the 1950s stated that in order to lead a healthy life, not only physical health mattered, but also self-realization was necessary. Thus, wellness is an experience that aims to bring out the best in people, achieving a balance between the physical, the emotional and the mental.
