More than 500 people participated in the “3 Km Walk Against Cancer” in order to support the fight against this disease.

The event was attended by women breast cancer survivors and their families as well as personnel from different medical units.

The contingent departed from the intersection of Federalismo and Ignacio L. Vallarta avenues, culminating the 3-kilometer route at the Arcos de Guadalajara.

The general director of the Jalisco Health Services OPD, José de Jesús Méndez de Lira, was on the tour, and he invited the people of Jalisco to adopt and promote measures to beat the breast cancer: “If it is detected in a timely manner we can give treatment and save lives, cancer is not synonymous with death,” said.

The director of Public Health of the SSJ, Ana Gabriela Mena Rodríguez, invited the young women to carry out a monthly self-examination and “from the age of 25, all those young women who go to the health units to have a clinical examination by the medical staff and all the women above 40 to 69 years a mammogram every two years.”

The agency recalled that throughout the month of October, the institutions of the Jalisco Health Sector intensify the actions of prevention, detection and timely diagnosis of breast cancer in medical units distributed throughout the state.

  • In Jalisco, an average of 49 women die per month from breast cancer.
  • The age group where most cases occur is 50 to 55 years.
  • In 2022, 255,691 examinations were performed at the Breast Clinics in women between the ages of 20 and 69, and 59,174 mammograms in women between the ages of 40 and 69.

October 19 marks the World Day to Fight Breast Cancer.
