On the most recent stop of the worldwide adventure, the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola is making a great impact in Mexico. Following visits to Venezuela and Guatemala, the Trophy landed in Monterrey, Mexico on Thursday 6 February to a warm welcome from local residents.
Having appeared at the FIFA World Cup 14 times – with the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil to be the 15th - Mexico is a footballing hotbed and an important region for FIFA’s football promotion and development, with the game continuing to flourish since they hosted the FIFA U17 World Cup in 2011. The country is also a key focus for Coca-Cola who, for 87 years, has been working to bring people together through music and physical activity.
Each year, Coca-Cola supports approximately 4,500 community events in Mexico with the aim of making a positive difference on people’s lives both physically and emotionally. A major part of these annual events is the Coca-Cola Cup (Copa Coca-Cola), which has become the biggest inter-schools tournament in the country. Since its inception 16 years ago, over 1m young people have participated in the tournament, which encourages values of healthy living, fair play and teamwork.
