Navy Now Responsible for Monitoring & Security of Mexican Cruise Terminals Vallarta Opina

Members of the Ministry of the Mexican Navy are taking over the monitoring and security of ports and marine terminals in the country, including Puerto Vallarta.
 
As published in the Official Gazette, the decision was made on April 1, 2014 to create the Naval Units Port Security (Unaprop) in 19 marine terminals in the country including three marine terminals that form the international route of the Mexican Riviera on the Pacific: Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Los Cabos.
 
The Secretary of the Navy of Mexico (Semar) reported that these units have the mission to perform actions of monitoring, inspection and control functions as Maritime Police within the port premises and to exercise authority in maritime port security.
 
The cruise ports that are included are: Ensenada, Baja California; La Paz, Baja California Sur; Guaymas, Sonora; Mazatlan, Sinaloa; Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco; Manzanillo, Colima; Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán, and Acapulco, Guerrero; Salina Cruz, Oaxaca; Puerto Chiapas, Chiapas; Puerto Matamoros, Tampico and Altamira in Tamaulipas; Tuxpan, Veracruz and Coatzacoalcos in Veracruz; Dos Bocas, Tabasco; and Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche and Progreso in Yucatan.
 
With this decision by the Federal Government, members of the Ministry of the Navy of Mexico will take over security in these maritime terminals, however it remains to be determined how the local shipbuilding industry will react to the changes.
