Chefs and artisans in Metepec, Mexico broke two Guinness World Records on Sunday by assembling 9,450 tacos to create the largest Taco de Plaza and by serving it in the world's largest clay pot.
Thousands of hungry residents looked on in the town's central Plaza Juarez as the Guinness official supervised the weighing of the tacos, which came in at a hefty 893 kilograms (1,969 pounds).
Metepec Tourism Director Karina Montes de Oca said the dish is traditional to the area.
"The largest clay pot in the world and largest Taco de Plaza which is a plate from the Valle de Toluca which, in our area, is usually eaten on Mondays," she explained.
Taco de Plaza is a staple in the Mazahua indigenous culture and consists of more than 30 ingredients, some of which the chefs prepared ahead of time and some of which were added fresh.
The massive clay pot was 2.50 meters wide, 1.50 meters high and took several months to create by local artisans who are renowned for their high-quality work with clay.
Metepec is within the state of Mexico, 70 kilometers (43 miles) from Mexico City.
