MEXICO CITY – Social progress and peace only come with full respect for the rule of law, said President Enrique Peña Nieto while enacting the General Law for Boys, Girls and Teenagers Rights.

“Respect for human rights, the law, and institutions are the instruments that our democracy has to continue growing and consolidating,” said the president from the Adolfo López Mateos Room at his official residence in Los Pinos.

With the implementation of this law the federal government reaffirms its commitment to human rights that are indispensable for a society to live in harmony and its commitment to development through equality, said Peña Nieto.

Joined by the first lady, federal legislators and representatives from children’s rights organizations, the president said that his government is working to provide more protection for minors in Mexico and, as mandated by the constitution, the government will continue to take actions in the interest of children’s welfare.
