Government Publishes Results of National Crusade Against Hunger at 2nd Anniversary

The National Crusade Against Hunger is a presidential decision that seeks to guarantee the right of permanent access to adequate food of 7.01 million Mexicans living in extreme food poverty (extreme poverty and food shortage).

Community kitchens, Full Time Schools, WithoutHunger Card, Family Orchards, Nutritional Supplements, New DICONSA stores, New Liconsa Affiliates are some of the most important actions in this area.

The objectives of the Crusade are:

  • Zero hunger based on providing suitable food and nutrition for Mexicans living in extreme poverty with severe food shortages.
  • Eliminate child malnutrition and improve growth indicators for children in early childhood.
  • Increase the production and income of peasants and small farmers.
  • Minimize post-harvest and food losses during storage and transport as well as in stores.
  • Promote community participation.



After nearly two years of actions, the National Crusade Against Hunger has yielded significant results.

It has provided greater access to food for millions of Mexicans:

  • 731,000 families receive support from the Without Hunger Card.
  • 1,351 new DICONSA stores; 17,011 in total.
  • 5,792 community kitchens (627,000 beneficiaries).
  • 52,200 family orchards.
  • 10,217 canteens at Full-time Schools.
  • 2.6 million new beneficiaries of LICONSA milk

It has helped families improve their incomes:

  • 713,000 new families incorporated intPROSPERA.
  • 1.4 million Senior Citizens with Pensions
  • 104,000 productive projects financed.
  • 1.6 million people have benefited from temporary employment.

Dwellings have been built and/or remodeled:

  • 28,462 new dwellings.
  • 99,000 cement floors built.
  • 138,000 strong ceilings constructed.
  • 37,000 additional rooms built.
  • 92,000 more dwellings have had electricity installed.
  • 209,000 more dwellings have had piped water installed.
  • 132,000 more have been fitted with drainage.
  • 48,750 public places have been connected in the municipalities involved in the Crusade, all within a context of broad citizen participation.
  • 63,000 community committees installed.
  • Over 8,000 brigade workers in 32 states.
