Christopher DeAntonio caught the heart-stopping event when he sent his go-pro up in a remote-controlled quad-copter over the Pacific Ocean near Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
As his camera flies towards the sunset it pans down to see the whale pop its fin out of the water to give a wave.
Christopher, 33, from New Jersey, said: "It was a complete surprise.
