Mexico Devotees Flog Themselves to Celebrate Easter

Devotees flogged themselves and carried huge crosses, as hundreds took part in the traditional Easter Good Friday ceremony in Taxco. In the procession men had covered faces and bare chests as they walked for over five hours bearing crosses.

Many also either whipped themselves or carried heavy rolls of blackberry bushes, whilst women, their entire body covered in black robes, chained their feet together and carried crosses, as a man lashed a whip at their backs.
