Cofepris clausura 10 clínicas de cirugía estética en Tijuana (Lindero NorteTV)
Mexico's medical regulatory agency has closed 10 plastic surgery and beauty-treatment clinics in the northern border city of Tijuana, after they were found to be operating with expired medicines that lacked proper permits.
Some of the 10 clinics had English-language names, suggesting they catered to travelers or border-crossers coming to Tijuana for treatments. The agency said that two other clinics were fined but not closed.
In late March, the agency closed the operating rooms of a hospital in the nearby city of Mexicali where a young Australian woman died following cosmetic procedure on her buttocks. The hospital had expired medications, equipment that had not been maintained and other failings.
Mexican authorities have suspended about 90 plastic surgery and aesthetic clinics or offices for violations since late 2012.
