Born between 1980 and 2000, they like sports, social networking and watching TV. They also enjoy art, music and languages. They are the so-called millennial generation.

In Mexico, according to a UVM [University of the Valley of Mexico] study conducted among the urban population, most millennials are single (59%). Depending on their age, they hold the bachelor's degree (42%), are in school (33%), or are employed (25%).

The UVM's Public Opinion Center carried out telephone surveys with 613 people aged between 16 and 35 years from all over Mexico. It also carried out group interviews with children aged between 10 and 15 years in public and private schools in the Federal District [Mexico City], Hermosillo [Sonora], Mérida [Yucatán] and Zapopan [Jalisco].

From the questions posed to these young people, it is evident that Mexican millennials are in some respects conservative: almost three-quarters are against the legalization of abortion and marijuana.

Getting married and having children still seems to be an attractive option for a high percentage (58%) - although among those who have not yet married, and are not certain that they will, the result is not so clear: just 34% say that they will get married and have children.

Although the study did not focus on finding out the political opinions of this generation, it found that for almost half of them (44%) voting is seen as useless in a [political] context like Mexico's.
