About 100 km from Gran Bahia Principe Akumal Royal Golden near Playa Del Carmen, you'll find the stunningly beautiful Reserva de la Biosfera Sian Ka'an, one of several natural protected areas in Mexico. But something the basecampers forgot to ask themselves before venturing off into the unknown was the simple question: "When is rainy season in Mexico?" The answer? From late August to mid-November.

The basecampers end up braving the rain and floating down beautiful red mangroves and a canal believed to have been built by ancient Mexican civilizations like the Mayans or Aztecs in true basecamping spirit. Watch the video for more on the Sian Ka'an tour in one of the best lagunas de Quintana Roo.
