As Catherine Miller of the San Diego Sportfishing Council phrased it: “It seems the world changed yesterday with regards to our access to sportfishing in Mexico.’
Miller, who also represents H&M Landing, said the reality is fishing will go on in Mexico, but the immigration requirements have stiffened for those fishing in the country’s territorial waters inside 12 miles. The new passport requirement does not affect anglers who fish offshore on overnight or multi-day voyages to Mexico outside the 12-mile limit.
Ken Franke, president of the Sportfishing Association of California, said the requirement is more of a “clarification” to Mexico’s regulations that have been in effect for some time.
