The Mexican Federal Police and Army are on stand by after a report was issued regarding the whereabouts of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán. According to Mexican publications, witnesses identified the drug lord at a car accident scene in Macuspana, Tabasco. The person in question was injured after a van crashed into a car in one of the town’s main streets and was later transported to the hospital.

According to local newspaper Tabasco Hoy, eyewitnesses confirmed the fugitive was present during the happenings and was in fact taken to the hospital to be treated. Federal troops were immediately alerted but arrived to the Hospital Regional de Macuspana a little too late. Upon their arrival, sources confirmed the patient was gone.

The medical report states that minutes before authorities arrived at the institution, the subject asked to be released from their care and left, which increased everyone’s suspects and put the whole town on alert. Members of the military arrived to the scene and began searching the area, warning other patients and their families about the possible presence of one of the most wanted men in the world.

When the hospital’s director, Rogelio de la Cruz Cruz, was confronted about the situation, he denied the happenings and refused to the disclose any personal information about the patient. The search for “El Chapo” Guzmán continues.
