A bilingual Spanish-Mayan version of the Mexico's Constitution is ready to be presented, after years of work on the translation, Prensa Latina reports.

By making the Constitution available in Mexico's most widely spoken indigenous language, the bilingual translation “constitutes an invaluable document for integration and national identity,” said the translation coordinator Fidencio Briceno.

The translation is also an important step toward providing services and making the legal system accessible to indigenous people in their own language, added Briceno.

The announcement of the completed translation comes after Mexico's National Commission on Human Rights signaled on this week that indigenous peoples are still victims of human rights violations due to poverty, inequality, and discrimination.

...Maya language, also called Yucatec Maya, is spoken by at least 800,000 people in Mexico.
