The U.S. imposed Kingpin Act sanctions on five Jalisco-based companies it said provide financial support to and are controlled by a Mexico-based drug cartel.

The U.S. imposed Kingpin Act sanctions on five companies it said provide financial support to and are controlled by a Mexico-based drug cartel.

The companies, which are all based in the Mexican state of Jalisco, are a sushi restaurant, a tequila business, a cabin rental company, an advertising firm and an agricultural company, the U.S. Department of Treasury said. They are all allegedly controlled by the Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generacion, which was placed under U.S. sanctions in April, Treasury said.

As a result of the sanctions designations, any assets the companies have under U.S. jurisdiction are frozen and Americans are barred from doing business with them.

[Mexico News Daily reports the firms are Mizu Sushi Lounge with outlets in Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara, tequila firm Onze Black in Guadalajara, cabin rental company Las Flores Cabañas in Tapalpa, publicity agency J&P Advertising and agricultural firm JJGON.
