President Enrique Peña Nieto on Sunday declared that his administration will adopt three measures to promote gender equality during his participation in a U.N. Global Leaders’ Meeting.

The president — in New York for the 70 th Regular Session of the U.N. General Assembly — said Mexico will elevate to Cabinet level the coordination of the works of the National Equality System Between Men and Women.

Peña Nieto said his administration will also “promote a greater co-responsibility between men and women to improve the workload distribution at home” and thirdly will intensify government actions to prevent teen pregnancies.

“Empowering women at the global level enriches and solidifies the actions in favor of the great causes of humanity,” Peña Nieto said during the U.N. panel entitled Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment: A Commitment to Action.
