The mothers of the 13 young people kidnapped in 2013 from a Mexico City bar and later murdered praised the long prison sentences handed down to three men convicted in the case, but they also demanded that officials investigate the motive for the killings.

A court sentenced the men - Heaven bar owner Ernesto Espinosa Lobo, his partner, Jose de Jesus Carmona, and Victor Manuel Torres, a kidnapper and hitman - on Sunday each to 520 years in prison and a fine of 5.1 million pesos ($300,000).

The men were the first to be convicted and sentenced for the crime of the 23 people on trial.

The victims were abducted in broad daylight on May 26, 2013, from the Heaven bar in Mexico City's upscale Zona Rosa district.

Investigators found the victims' remains in a clandestine mass grave - covered with cement, asbestos and lime - on the La Mesa ranch in Tlalmanalco, a city in Mexico state, on Aug. 22, 2013.

The bodies of the people snatched from the Heaven bar were discovered by federal investigators pursuing leads in a firearms case unrelated to the Heaven bar kidnappings.
