President Barack Obama's pick to be the next ambassador to Mexico is ready for a confirmation vote in front of the full Senate.

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee approved the nomination of Roberta Jacobson on Tuesday morning, 12-7, according to Chairman Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) and committee sources. Her nomination had been slowed in committee by Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, who peppered her with dozens of written questions as she awaited panel approval.

Now Jacobson, who has drawn scrutiny from some senators for her work re-establishing ties with Cuba, can be confirmed by the full Senate, though she must jump through procedural hoops to do so. Any senator, like Rubio, can "hold" her nomination, which would require Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to prioritize her nomination by moving to end debate.

Such a hold is expected, according to her supporters.
