Mexican authorities are stepping up security at airports, border crossings and embassies as a precaution in the wake of last week's attacks in Paris, a senior official said Tuesday.

Renato Sales, Mexico's national security commissioner, told reporters that authorities are "doing what we can" to increase vigilance, but he did not provide details.

A day earlier, Sales said the Mexican government was in contact with authorities in neighboring countries and France, though there was no specific threat in Mexico, which shares a huge border with the United States.

Two Mexican women were among the 129 people who were killed in last Friday's jihadist attacks in Paris.
