Mexico: Ex-Mexican president decries the US 'War on Drugs' (Ruptly TV)

The Senate has established the methodology for the debate on the legalization of marijuana and regulatory alternatives, which will include public hearings in which the effects on consumer health will be discussed; the regulation of marijuana in relation to public safety and health control; the responsibility for damage to third parties and its use in relation to the prison system.

Senator Roberto Gil Zuarth, president of the Senate and a member of the National Action Party, said because the regulations resulting from this legislative process must be based on scientific studies, it will be necessary to consult the national educational and research institutions, as well as senior researchers in the field.

For this a “Technical Council for Regulatory Alternatives,” will be created and will be comprised of individuals from 15 institutions, including the Mexican Academy of Sciences, Cofepris, CNDH, Conadic, INEG, UNAM, CIDE, the College of México and three nationally recognized scholars appointed by the Senate.

This Technical Council will conclude its work in the first quarter 2016 in order that information will be available to the senators when they begin the first regular session in February 2016.
