The Islamic State group this week released a new “Hollywood-quality” video threatening to carry out attacks in 60 countries, including Mexico. (LiveLeak)

After the attacks in Paris, France, and the threat made to more than 60 countries by the Islamic State group, alerts remain in place since no nation is safe, even though there is no indication that the terrorist group is planning an attack in Mexico, said of Foreign Relations Undersecretary Carlos Alberto de Icaza González.

Meeting with Senate committees, De Icaza predicted that as the military, political and religious conflict in Syria continues, Mexico should be prepared.

“The Islamic State listed 60 countries which it has identified as its enemies. From what has appeared in social networks we have no knowledge or any indication yet that they may have planned an attack of this type in Mexico, we know of no threat,” he said.

The undersecretary said before senators that because of the proximity Mexico has with the United States, they have launched security operations.

“Based on our distance from the conflict zone it is not expected that our country can have a situation like we have seen elsewhere in the world, but certainly all warning mechanisms are on alert, the red lights are on, the preventive measures must be in effect on all border and security mechanisms, as always in this situation,” he said.
