Mexico migrants' mothers on 'route' of the missing (Al Jazeera English)

As happens every year, mothers travel the country looking for their sons and daughters — Central American migrants who disappeared in transit through Mexico.

This week, the annual caravan set out from Tenosique, Tabasco, on a 20-day pilgrimage. As a security measure, their route will not include either Oaxaca City or the state of Tamaulipas. Marta Sánchez, leader of the Mesoamerican Migrant Movement [MMM], explained:

"We have had to adapt the route to the circumstances of the country in order to avoid getting into more trouble than is absolutely necessary. For example, we had to cancel Oaxaca City, because conditions aren't right. Many of our allies are being persecuted or are in prison."

For the first time as a Caravan of Central American mothers seeking their children disappeared in transit through Mexico, two reports of multiple abduction will be filed with the Public Ministry [Public Prosecutor]. Organized crime and their "institutional accomplices" are presumed to be the main figures in these incidents.

The MMM argues that the criminal violence "that is spreading rampantly throughout our [Central American] countries" is the cause of the disappearances and forced displacements.
