Lila Downs announced that on her next album she will focus on songs that talks about how the U.S. treats immigrants and the acts of racism against Latinos in the nation. "I'll talk about different things about the United States, and it will be through music," Downs said to Notimex, "with musical letters you want to engage in dialogue about Latinos in the United States and know why we are seeing with so much racism on their part. Because we knew it existed, but we wouldn't see its ugly head, as we are now seeing."

The outspoken Latin cultural ambassador added that the new project will have songs in English, "I want a diverse album, with songs in English, Spanish," adding that Boleros will also be part of the production based on some of the most memorable melodies of the Mexican songwriter Alvaro Carrillo.

The artist concluded by saying to the news outlets that she's wrapping up a great year with different concerts and her "#ZeroMaternalDeaths" (#CeroMuertesMaternas) campaign that was launched "in order to mobilize the region of the Americas to reduce maternal deaths caused by postpartum hemorrhage, a leading cause of maternal mortality worldwide."
