'Insulting': Mexico Minimum Wage Increase Approved ML - The News

Beginning Jan. 1, 2016, salaried workers will receive a wage of 73.04 pesos ($4.20) a day, 2.94 pesos more than 2015, which was 70.10 pesos, since the National Minimum Wage Commission (Conasami) unanimously agreed to increase minimum wage by 4.2 percent Friday.

In a news conference, accompanied by the representatives of the management sector, Tomás Natividad, and the labor sector, José Luis Carazo Preciado, Conasami Commissioner Basilico González Núñez said, “What I would say to the working class is that the real poor people of Mexico are those who don’t have work, the unemployed, those who don’t have jobs and have gone a long time without having any income. What do you think they would prefer, a minimum wage or to not continue making an income?”

...The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Jesús Zambrano Grijalva, said that Conasami didn’t wait to take into account the consensus of all the political powers in Congress. He said that the less than 3-peso increase was an insult to democracy.
