Teaching students, parents and teachers of the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE, in Spanish) persist today with their demand for the release of 52 students arrested in Michoacan, Mexico.

These young people were arrested on December 7 when they were evicted from the toll booth of the Pátzcuaro-Lázaro Cárdenas, 21st Century highway, which they were blocking to demand positions without competitive examination, among other demands.

The Seventh federal court, based in Morelia, issued formal arrest on Saturday against 30 male teaching students, which caused marches, blockades and sit-ins to demand the release of these students, members of the Organization of Official Teachers in the Michoacán state.

During the weekend demonstrations and blockades continued, including sit-ins at the headquarters of the municipal governments of Apatzingán, Huetamo and Lázaro Cárdenas.

The governor of Michoacán, Silvano Aureoles Conejo, met with parents of the 52 detainees, who offered to be the dialogue bridge with federal authorities to solve, "by means of dialogue and legality", the situation of their children.
