The third district federal court in Cuernavaca, Morelos, ordered the release of the 22 women students from the Arteaga Normal School in Michoacan, for failure by the federal prosecutor (PGR) to show evidence of any violation of the Federal Law on Firearms and Explosives. The students have been held in the women's federal prison in Coatlán del Río, Morelos, since December 9.

In Michoacan, the Attorney General of the State (PGJE) announced that these 22 women students and 30 male students arrested the same day and held in the federal prison in Hermosillo, Sonora, are the objects of 52 state arrest warrants on charges of grand theft and damage to property, as bus companies and distributors of products have filed criminal complaints, so the women might be arrested upon their arrival in Morelia [the state capital].

Luis Alberto Bravo Navarrete, one of the four lawyers for the students, said the 22 students will now have to wait three days to be freed. The laywer, who is also a legal adviser to Section 18 of the National Coordinating Committee of Education Workers (CNTE) in Michoacán explained that in this time period the PGR office in Michoacan may appeal the decision.
