African descendants from the north of Mexico said that there was a lack of inclusive public policies for their communities, said the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH).

In some cases, the impossibility of verifying data or the lack of complete official documents has prevented them from completing various procedures and taking advantage of their human rights.

During a visit to El Nacimiento Negros Mascogos (Birth of the Black Seminoles) population in Múzquiz, Coahuila, members of the commis- sion recognized the difficulties that this community faces in exercising and gaining respect for their basic rights.

A meeting was held between members of the community and the CNDH with the goal of speading and promoting a human rights culture among the African-Mexican population, so that its members can exercise and demand the fulfillment of these rights.

During the meeting, the commissioners had the opportunity to perform many interviews in order to obtain testimonials from children, adults and the elderly of the community.

They also took note of the problems that they face, like the lack of health services and a basic food and water supply.

As a community, they have asked the state to respond to their needs and build a bridge to cross the Sabinas River and a highway to connect them with the rest of Coahuila.

With a population of about 200 African-Mexican inhabitants, there are few young people and a high number of adults and elderly, the commission said.
