Mexico has put into action a plan to handle the flow of mainly Central American migrants passing through its territory on the way to the US. The government clampdown comes after the number of child migrants taking this route to the US spiked. But the plan not only resulted in a huge increase in deportations. There have also been complaints of human rights abuses. (Al Jazeera)

Mexican authorities say there's a surge of illegal migrants from Central America being caught in Mexico, trying to cross the border into the United States. This sharply contrasts with Mexican migrants, many of whom have decided to return from the US back to Mexico.

Mexico's Ministry of Interior confirms that almost 200,000 undocumented migrants have been detained during 2015, which they say is the highest number for ten years. 92 percent are from Central America and of that, 45 percent come from Guatemala, trying to escape extreme poverty and organized crime.

While security along the Mexico/US border, has been tightened, authorties concede their Southern frontier remains porus.
