A deal has been reached by Central American officials to set a framework that will allow stranded Cubans to continue to the U.S. Julie Noce reports. (Reuters)

Mexico has expressed satisfaction on the progress achieved in Central America for the Cuban migrants seeking US border after the meeting on the subject held in Guatemala.

A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) expressed satisfaction with the agreement reached by the governments of Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico and Panama to perform in the first week of January an exercise moving Cuban migrants.

The Mexican Foreign Ministry said the resolution follows what Mexico promoted at the meeting on 22 December with a view to identifying measures to address the situation of thousands of Cubans who are in Costa Rica.

Mexico welcomes the progress to resolve the situation of Cuban migrants, adds the statement.
