Laid-Back Beach, Lost in Time, in Zipolite, Mexico (Alex Luke)

One of the goals at the 6th Latin American Nudists Gathering, which will be held Jan. 28-30, is to turn Zipolite, a famous beach community in the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca, into a global clothing-optional destination, organizers said.

“Zipolite is the nudist beach that comes closest to having legal status in Mexico,” Mexican Nudists Federation, or FNM, president Juan Marcos Castañeda told EFE.

The FNM was formed in December 2011 and has about 50 members, Castañeda said.

Mexico has many other beaches and locations where “nudity is practiced and tolerated,” but there are no laws or regulations that allow naturism, Castañeda said.

Nudity is allowed only along the 1.75-kilometer (1.1-mile) shore of Zipolite, but clothing must be worn in the community’s streets and hotels.

...Naturists from Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Ecuador and Spain have registered for the event.
