Virtual Reality for Everyone in 2016: Ready for This New Planet? (XperienciaVirtual)

Virtual reality is not a new concept. It has been a part of the science fiction narrative for many decades. But science fiction, of course, tends to operate in a futuristic or alternate reality type of universe and this makes it difficult to truly know when we can anticipate such developments.

Over the past several years, however, tremendous progress has been made in the realm of virtual reality and not only is it finally very real but also quite accessible.

“VR is taking the world by storm, similar to what mobile did seven years ago,” explains Abi Mandelbaum, who is the CEO of YouVisit, a company that has already created more than 300 VR experiences for destinations - like Vatican City or Mexico’s Grand Velas Riviera Maya - around the globe. “Virtual reality is the most realistic experience you can have of a place without being there. It’s powerful. It gets people excited and engaged and interested in having that experience in real life.”

While Google advocate its inexpensive immersive “Google Cardboard” program - which involves cutting out a view finder and using your Android phone as your visual reference - true virtual reality headsets are now available on the market for $100, from companies like Samsung.
