Social Experiment the 'Double Standard' of Domestic Violence (RightThisMinute)

From January 2014 to November 2015, 6,503 complaints were filed from men who claimed to have suffered psychological and physical abuse at the hands of a wife, partner or other female relative, Mexico City’s Attorney General Office reported.

Statistics from Mexico’s Data Service Centre for Domestic Violence (Datos del Centro de Atención a Violencia Intrafamiliar) say the majority of complaints filed by men are to do with psychological abuse from women such as insults, lack of attention and acting with indifference towards them.

Despite the surprisingly high-number of domestic abuse complaints filed by men, figures from various bodies in Mexico say women experience psychological and physical abuse at the hands of men far more frequently.

According to the report, over the same period there were 23,965 complaints leveled to the authority by women commonly citing physical abuse from male relatives or partners.

UN officials have said Mexico ranks among the world’s 20 worst countries for violence against women.

In July 2015 dozens of women demonstrated in front of Mexico's Interior Ministry in the capital to protest against domestic violence.
