Nestora Salgado's Detention Order Upheld by State of Guerrero Superior Court Sergio Ocampo Arista - La Jornada

The First Criminal Chamber of the Superior Court of Justice in Guerrero upheld the detention order against Nestora Salgado García, community advocate and a leader of the Regional Coordinator of Community Authorities-Communal Police (CRAC-PC), for the crime of aggravated kidnapping. In making its ruling, the Court rejected the appeal presented by the defense.

Leonel Rivero Rodríguez, lawyer for Comandante Salgado—arrested in August 2013—reported that the judges of the First Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court, Vicente Rodríguez, Miguel Barreto and Alfonso Vélez Cabrera, issued the resolution on December 15, but it had not been released because of the holiday season.

Rivero Rodríguez said the judges rejected the appeal for lack of evidence presented by the defense before the Criminal Chamber of the Guerrero Judiciary, needed to revoke the detention order issued by the Criminal Court of Tlapa against Nestora Salgado, who is currently being held in Tepepan Prison in Mexico City. Rivero explained that

"based on the resolution issued by the federal court on February 18, 2015, which acquitted her of the crime of organized crime, the appeal [of the detention order] was filed for lack of evidence."
